Come on, Take The Money And Run

Sign at corner of Rt.299 and North Putt Corners Road, New Paltz

Ulster County IDA Floats $125 Million Dollars For WOODLAND PONDS PROJECT;
Out of state workers flood into our area to take jobs created with NY taxpayers money.

All While Ulster County Workers Face Their Highest Unemployment Numbers in Decades!

The Ulster County Industrial Development Agency has failed us all once again!

New Paltz, NY - The Ulster County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) has helped finance the project known as “Woodland Ponds” on North Putt Corners Road with $125,000,000 in tax exempt bonds. Our Ulster County IDA Board is supposed to create jobs for the local residents in return for providing millions in public funding to corporations.

What was once a great idea has turned into a form of corporate welfare at the expense of the local residents. Our Ulster IDA did NOT ask or God forbid - DEMAND - something concrete in return for the financial investment – no promise of jobs, no promise of local employment, nothing.

We will just trust you and please………..just take our money.

The project hired a Construction Manager called Tri-Tec from Long Island to dole out the contracts. The number out of state workers onsite is staggering. New Hampshire, Florida, North Carolina, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, New Jersey are all benefiting from our investment of NYS tax money. They must be very grateful to us NYS taxpayers for financing their employment while we have our own NY / Ulster residents on unemployment.

An IDA was created in each county in NYS and they exist to promote the economic well being of the "residents". However, it's becoming clear that our Ulster IDA Board doesn't think that means the "residents of Ulster".

Their track record for "job creation" compares very closely to that of the Jamaican Bobsled team. Stay tuned.

All we hear about is creating jobs, the need to create jobs, and that we need to have good paying jobs...................but every time the curtain pulls open.....we get the bad news......NO jobs.

Throw the whole IDA board out and put regular working people on it...then you will see jobs. Right now the pompous asses on it all have jobs and this is all a game to them. They sit on the board so they can put it on their resume later, they don't really understand what it is like out there to have to live paycheck to paycheck. They are a bunch of bullshit - all of them.

Well hold on now....the Ulster IDA did create a few maid jobs at that tourist attraction known as the Hampton Inn on RT. 9W. They financed that one too for us. lol I am sure you have read about that destination and how people are dying to visit it in all of the travel magazines.

Is this why Jen has us doing all these projects. Maybe we should start mowing the legislators lawns for free, shoveling their sidewalks, repairing their roofs. Then maybe they will throw us some crumbs from their table.

Why does the IDA board continue to give Ulster County taxes to people in other states. Come on Jen get your act together and start getting some work for the working families of Ulster County.

We have to expand our tax base to create jobs. But when we give money to contractors who don't even live in this county or spend one penny of it here, it makes no sense at all. Somebody has got to be getting a kickback.

For the record, Jen is the only person on the board who EVER stuck up for the concept of creating good jobs as number one priority.
Our buddy Elliot Arrowback and the rest of that whole crew wouldn't know how to create a job if it hit them in the face.

hahaha the Jamaican Bobsled team....lol perfect

For the record nobody in labor is supporting Elliot, maybe Jen should run for office herself. I hear there is an alderperson in her ward who is very labor unfriendly.

No one in Ulster County is safe when any Joe Smoe can hook up your electric, plumbing, ect. Inever thought I would say this, but I'm glad I live in Kingston.

wait until people can't pay their food, gas, oil and electric bills this winter.....you will see people at these board meetings screaming bloody murder at them.

Who is Brittany Turner and where did she come from. She's far to young to have any experiance in labor issues. Can anyone help

I don't know where she came from. Brittany works for the Area Labor Federation as a coordinator. She does not work for a union. She's young, she does a good job at what she does, and as always, there is some OJT involved in that.

September 17, 2008 4:48 PM should you be talking? Do you have any labor experience? Some people mature faster then others. Some people learn faster then others and some people gain experience faster then others. How would you know she knows nothing about labor issues??

Lets here what you know and what you have to say?

She may know something about labor issues is true. But according to the New Paltz times she's more concerned with the closing time for bars than labor issue.

A Progressive Hudson Valley Union said...

I wouldn't say she cares more about the bar issue, that's not fair. Lets leave it alone now - anyone who works for the benefit of working people will have many good qualities in their character.

Woodland Ponds is the Ulster County Development Corporations key project. ...all run by Democrats.

Nice to see that Dems are fighting for labor jobs!

Call Dave Donldson [ulster cty legislature chair], Lance Matteson [ucdc president] and Ron Marquette [ucdc board chair] and tell them that they are doing a fine job bringing construction jobs to their one and only project.

Were the jobs bid on and paid to scale? Or were we too expensive?
